iPod Imitation Valentines - Craft

It's been a while, I know. But going back to school and getting everything ready for my grandpa's surprise party got the best of me. It started taking all my time up, but I'm back. And I'm ready to take "crafting" to the next level. :)

Today, I'm showing you how to make iPod imitation valentines. I'm making these for my little brother's class since he's getting a bit older and I think the flat cards that my mom used to send me to school with are pretty boring.

I had thought of the idea before, then while trying to come up with a printout of the iPod screen and circle pad I found a similar tutorial on Family Fun and I did use their printable because I couldn't come up with anything better. :P

Here's how I made them.

What you'll need:

1.) 1 oz. box of Sweethearts
2.) 2 mini Reeses cups
3.) 1 4x7 inch piece of red construction paper
4.) 1 pipe cleaner
5.) iPod screen & circle home button printout (found here)
6.) Glue gun
7.) Aluminum foil circles to cover Resses cups - optional (I didn't use them.)

And here is how to make them... with photos! ;)

Step 1.) Glue the circle & screen onto the center of the red paper.

Step 2.) Wrap and glue the red paper around the box of Sweethearts.

Step 3.) Fold pipe cleaner like show in the materials picture above and glue it to the top corner of the Sweethearts box.

Step 4.) Glue a Resses cup to each of the ends of the pipe cleaner. (excuse my horrible picture, lol)

Remember, if you want to, you can wrap the Reeses cups in aluminum foil first.

And with that, you're done!!! :)

If you try this out for yourself, I would LOVE to see so send me a link. :) xoxo

Homemade Au Gratin Potatoes - Recipe

The other day, I decided it was time to try a new recipe. I had been dying to make some Au Gratin Potatoes so I decided that's what I was going to make. :) They were actually pretty yummy!

I'm the type of person that likes leftovers better than when I first got the meal, is that weird? I had the leftovers today for lunch and it was way better to me! And since I didn't get to take pictures the night we made it, I did take a picture of it today.

Want to make them for yourself? I promise they're yummy! Here's the recipe:

Au Gratin Potatoes
Prep Time: 30 minutes - Cook Time: 1 hour and 30 minutes

Ingredients:
4 Russet Potatoes, sliced
3 Tablespoons of Butter
3 Tablespoons of All Purpose Flour
2 Cups of Milk
2 Cups of Shredded Cheddar Cheese
1/2 Teaspoon of Salt
Salt & Pepper for Taste
Breadcrumbs to make a Crust (optional

Preparation:
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees F
- Butter a Casserole Dish

Directions:
1.) Layer potatoes evenly in casserole dish. Add salt and pepper for taste.
2.) In a saucepan, melt the butter completely.
3.) Mix in flour and salt and whisk for about a minute.
4.) Add the milk and cook until the mixture has thickened.
5.) Add in all the cheese and stir until the cheese has melted.
6.) Pour the cheese sauce over the potatoes.
Optional - Sprinkle breadcrumbs on top to make a crust.
7.) Cover dish with aluminum foil and bake for one and a half hours.

In the end, this is a recipe I'll try again for sure! I loved it, the taste wasn't too over powering and it goes perfectly with homemade chicken strips. :)

So try it out for yourself and if you do, I'd LOVE to hear what you thought!

To end this, what do you all think about recipe cards? I was thinking of making some for every recipe I post here on Made By Brittany and then sharing it here so you all can print it out for your own use. Yes... No? Let me know what you all think! :)

xoxo

Taking on a New Adventure

I've always thought about starting a "craft" blog. One where I can sit here and share things I've done, well made. Recently, when I started making tutus, my love for everything homemade just grew. I actually found my love for everything homemade.

So here I am, starting a "made by me" blog, where I'll share how-to's and what not about things things I have made. It could include recipes, crafts, even design stuff!

This all started after I started reading Jaime's blog - C.R.A.F.T.. I had met Jaime at Bloggy Boot Camp in Austin and I've been secretly stalking her ever since! ;)

So... wish me luck, ya'll!

And I can't wait to share everything I've "made."
